Programming
Programming wise we did a lot of bug fixing, for example, there was a persisting issue where hats couldn't be picked up after they were shot off. We also added an animated scene at the end where the winning player takes off on the train.
There was also a "death animation event" where the camera switched to the player who dies upon losing all of their hats and follows them as they run off. However, due to supervisor feedback, this feature was eventually scrapped. The camera switch was too quick and would take too long to smooth out in the final week of polish.
Many issues have been fixed including the music and sound effects not being played when the player returns to the main menu from the join screen or after winning a game.
Bug fixes include:
- The red flashing of the hit indicator for the player that shows how long they have IFrames was fixed. The duration of which the player used to flash was too short and not accurate to how long the IFrames were supposed to last.
- IFrame duration has also been extended from 1 second to 2 seconds in order to give players a chance to recover after being shot instead of other players being able to bully and spam someone after they are shot.
- The player has also been properly put onto the train animation at the end so they are effectively riding off into the sunset
- A few animation-related things were made in a way that was frame-rate dependent. Therefore, depending on how much lag was in the game and therefore your machine, some objects were able to move quicker or slower than they were supposed to. To fix this, they were made frame-rate independent (such as the trains).
- The title music also used to not go away when the round started, this has also been fixed as well as a few issues with the audio manager in general not working.
- Players can also no longer join mid-game.
Several sounds have also been added to the special abilities to add extra oomph.
Art
This week of the last polish sprint we made sure our scene had some dynamic aspects.
The large cacti in the scene wobble now when playing the game.
The train now also wobbles and squeezes while standing still and when it moves on the end.
With every asset now also being in the scene and all changes applied art wise we have baked our lighting and changed the values somewhat to give a better feel when playing the game.
SOUND
All sound has been added and all the small errors have been removed!
With all this done, it means we are ready for release YEEEHAAAW! So gather your friends and start shootin' for them hats
